NON-PARTISAN GENERAL ELECTION NOVEMBER 3, 2020
MUNICIPAL GENERAL ELECTION
The City of St. Marys government conisists of a Mayor and six Councilmembers which comprise City Council. City Council represents the entire City and are elected by simple majority. The term of each office is four years. Elections are staggered every two years on even years. St. Marys will have four (4) seats on the ballot on Tuesday, Novemer 3, 2020 for Mayor and Posts 4, 5 and 6. Candidates elected to office on November 3rd will be sworn in at the first meeting in 2021.
QUALIFYING FOR MAYOR AND POSTS 4, 5 & 6 BEGINS AUGUST 17, 2020
Qualifying fees are $342.00 for Mayor and $270.00 for Posts 4, 5 and 6. The Qualifying Dates for the November 3, 2020 Non-partisan General Election are August 17th - 21st (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday) from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the City Clerk's Office, located in St. Marys City Hall, 418 Osborne Road, St. Marys, Georgia, 31558. All potential candidates are qualified by the City Clerk. To be eligible to qualify for Mayor or Councilmember, a person at the time of Qualification Must:
1. Have attained the age of 21 years.
2. Have resided in the City for not less than one year immediately preceding the date of qualification for office and must continue to reside in City during term of office.
3. Be a qualified elector of the City.
4. Meet any other requirements established by general state law.
